Zelda-like
A downloadable game for Windows
This is a 2d pixel art action-aventure inspired by the old zelda games, it will not take long to finish, have fun !
The game was made as a school project with the constraint of using Phaser as game engine
With this project, I tried to imitate the old zelda game's dungeons with the addition of a unique mechanic of my creation : telekinesis.
Design
The game is divided into rooms of different sizes and content, every room is conected via doors, some of them are locked, there are also enemies, breakable pot that can give you life heart and chest, which contains either heart or keys to open locked doors.
The goal is to reach the final Boss room, but first you'll need to get the Boss key in order to open the final door.
Using locked doors, I was able to create a path for the player to take, but the path is not fully linear so the player would still get the sense of adventure as he explore through the dungeon.
Using obstacles, I could block some path until the player unlocked the special ability. The goal was to make every room feel unique and interesting, with different strategies for fighting. And alternate between fights and puzzle to maintain the player's flow.
Art
All of the assets were made by hand using Aseprite, the character design was made to be easily recognized and easy to animate. For the environment, I made tiles that I reused to make every room in Aseprite before importing them into the game.
The boss enemy was partially animated in the script so it would react better to the player.
Programmation
The workflow with javascript and Phaser was not easy but I managed to make it work by working my way one step at a time, make the character move, attack, stop when against wall, go through doors, so on and so forth.
